Ana Herrero

Ana Herrero – Pop Hyperrealism and the Art of Motoring

Ana Herrero is a Spanish-born, UK-based artist whose large-scale hyperrealist paintings explore the cultural mythology of the automobile. With a style rooted in technical precision yet infused with Pop irony, she transforms iconic cars into contemporary symbols that oscillate between reverence and parody.

Following her debut at the Art of Motoring Exhibition at the Royal Automobile Club in 2024, Herrero returns with a more radical body of work. While the RAC has traditionally celebrated motoring art in its most classical and reverential form, Herrero deliberately disrupts this canon. Her works juxtapose hyperreal depictions of historic vehicles with kitsch Pop interventions — such as animal-shaped balloons — subverting solemn icons of British identity with wit, irony, and cultural play.

In doing so, Herrero redefines automotive portraiture: not only as homage to engineering and history, but as contemporary art that questions myths, symbols, and the very act of representation itself.
