Annual exhibition moves to Sotheby’s

The Royal Automobile Club’s annual Art of Motoring exhibition will move up a gear this year with the news that, for its ninth running,  it will be held in Sotherby’s Bond Street , London Conduit Gallery. Considered the leading  motoring and motorsport art exhibition in Europe the exhibition will continue to be one of the main events of the Club’s London Motor Week.

To be held from Monday October 31st to  Saturday November 5th, the event reflects the growing relationship between the Club and the leading auction house Sotherby’s . RM Sotherby’s  are the title sponsor of the annual London to Brighton Veteran car run and will also hold their annual motor sale at Marlborough House on November the 5th.

The exhibition was previously housed in the Club’s Pall Mall headquarters but the move will allow the organisers to not only accommodate more artists and sculptors, offer them more space and provide the general public with the chance to view the works from many of the leading exponents of the genre. The exhibition will be known as The Royal Automobile Club  Art of Motoring Exhibition at Sotherby’s London Bond Street.

Commenting on the move , the Club’s Chairman Ben Cussons commented “ We have championed motoring art and particularly British motoring art for decades . The move to this great new space will really elevate the exhibition to a new level and give the artists the exposure and space they deserve.”

Added Sotherby’s, “ we are so excited to be involved with the best motoring artists and this really does dovetail in perfectly with all our other London Motor Week activities.”

While the exhibition is primarily open to British artists, a selected band of American and European artists will also have their work on show. These will include the former Swedish Ferrari Formula 1 driver  Stefan Johansson, whose unique portraits of top Formula 1 personalities proved such a success last year. Johansson is now based in America and also coming from the States is leading female artist  Heidi Mraz , well known for her stunning collages.

They will join the established British names just as Tim Layzell, sculptor Johnny Ambrose, John Ketchell, the Rev Adam Gompertz and Neil Collins . The exhibition will be curated by Andrew Marriott in association with Rupert Whyte of Historic Car Art They promise some emerging new painting talent will be showcased, and will also showcase some emerging talent too.

Entrance to the exhibition will be free of charge and the majority of the works can be purchased direct from the artists.
